We Are Closed

The NHS has been told to prepare services for patients wanting to lose weight using weight loss injections (Mounjaro). An original target date was set for the 23rd of June for everything to be ready but plans have not been completed yet and a service is not ready for now or for then.

The NHS will be starting with patients with the highest risk before making it more available to others but this will be a long process over years due to the high numbers.

The current guidance is that they will start with patients who have a BMI of 40 or above, PLUS four or more of the following health conditions – high blood pressure (on treatment), high cholesterol levels requiring treatment (or high levels without treatment), obstructive sleep apnoea needing treatment such as CPAP, cardiovascular disease (such as ischaemic heart disease, strokes, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease) or type 2 diabetes.

We are not able to start for anyone who does not reach this criteria set by the NHS and that is only when a service is set up and offered for GPs to run.
