If you choose to have weight loss surgery abroad or privately within the UK we strongly encourage you to look into what blood test monitoring is needed after this and who will be doing it and interpreting the results. Our current policy is that we do not do any blood tests to monitor in the first two years following any weight loss surgery – this includes the taking of blood or the interpreting of results. This is in line with national guidance that monitoring and follow up in this period of time needs to be undertaken by a specialist service and not the GP. After the two year period we would perform the monitoring which again is national guidance. GP’s are not trained or covered to interpret these results within the two year period.
We also are unable to perform blood tests and pass on any results – this is not a service we are funded for.
